Street Law
The „Street Law” Program is an educational program related to legal issues which
uses methods of interactive teaching. The aim of the program is mainly to
provide children and young people with hands-on information related to law and
develop skills needed in their private and professional lives.
Undestanding the Media
To Understand Media is a project supporting media education mainly in high
schools. The project includes trainings which present hands-on and interactive
education on media and their functions. The aim of the project is for teachers
to receive basic information on media functions while acquiring necessary skills
and methodology procedures through which they could achieve basic level of media
literacy of their students, i.e. that students would be able to receive and
search for information, critically approach the information provided by media,
identify methods of how media attract attention of their recipients and be able
to reveal the argumentation, manipulative tendencies and means of expression of
commercial and political advertising. A methodology manual – a multi-media
CD-ROM – is being developed as a part of the project.
Deliebrating in Democracy
An international project „Deliberating in a Democracy” (DID) has run
since September 2004. The project was developed as a cooperation of three US
organizations: Constitutional Rights Foundation Chicago (CRFC), Constitutional
Rights Foundation Los Angeles (CRF) and Street Law, Inc from Washington D.C. On
the Czech part the project is coordinated by Partners Czech, o.p.s. It is
implemented mainly by high school teachers and their students from six partner
centers – Azerbaijan, Czech Republic, Lithuania and surrounding areas of
Chicago, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.The international project aims to
increase students’ awareness of current social problems as well as their active
involvement in discussions on democratic principles in their countries. Students
may confront their views with opinions and attitudes of students from partner
countries. The project includes also exchange stays of teachers from the Czech
Republic and the USA. T13 schools in total from several cities in the Czech
Republic (Prague, Mladá Boleslav, Nymburk, Liberec, Moravské Budějovice,
Luhačovice, Znojmo and Ostrava) got involved in the project.
The European Citizens' Consultations
The European Citizens' Consultations are the first-ever pan-European debate
involving citizens from all 25 Member States to debate the future of the
European Union across the boundaries of geography and language. Citizens
exchange opinions, develop together their ideas on the future direction of
Europe, and communicate their perspectives to policy-makers. Simultaneous and
interlinked events across Europe allow every citizen to make his or her voice
heard. The process is funded and organised by an independent consortium of
foundations and non-profit organisations from all over Europe and led by the
King Baudouin Foundation. It is co-sponsored by the European Commission's
communication strategy "Plan D". For more details see
www.european-citizens-consultations.eu
The first event took place in Brussels on the 7th and 8th of October 2006. 200
citizens from all 25 Member States discussed the overall question of "what
Europe do we want?" and thereby set the agenda for the following debates at
national level.
řFrom January to April 2007, 25 national consultations take place at Member
State level to discuss the overarching question "what is needed to achieve the
Europe we want?". Each consultation has four other consultations in other Member
States happening at the same time. They exchange their results and enable a
European dialogue across locations. The Czech National Consultation will take
place on 10th and 11th February 2007 along with Estonia, Slovenia, Ireland and
Portugal.
Probation and Rehabilitation Program
Street Law Probation and Rehabilitation Program is a project funded by the
European Social Fund with a contribution from the national budget. Its
implementation started on 1 August 2005 and it will be completed in July 2007.
The implementation of the “Street Law” Probation and Rehabilitation Program in
the meaning of Act No. 218/2003 Coll., (hereinafter referred to as PRP) extends
insufficient offer of rehabilitation programs and presents a possibility of
using this educational measure for juvenile offenders and young adults in
practice.
The Roma Integration Program
The Roma Integration Program funded by USAID has run in 2003-2007 in cooperation
with affiliated Partners centers in Hungary, Slovakia, USA and Czech Republic.
The program strives to extend opportunities for active participation of Roma in
community activities, improve access to services and change attitudes of the
majority society to Roma issues. The program aims to provide expertise and
overall assistance to the Roma community in order to improve its situation in
various fields (housing, easier access to education, employment, etc.). This aim
will be achieved through financial support to the projects developed during the
community planning, by interactive training focusing on reinforcing skills of
Roma and pro-Roma non-governmental non-profit organizations, encouraging the
establishment of conciliation commissions, organizing round table discussions
and exerting influence on media.
Video program A Citizen and his Community
Videoprogram is a teaching aid enabling students to get actively
involved in issues such as: community, civic participation, elections,
municipality, municipal council, etc. The main aim of the training is to provide
participants with an opportunity to work with an interactive teaching video
program „A Citizen and his Community” so that they could use it as a teaching
aid. By means of a video program, students not only develop their knowledge but
also practical skills (e.g. what matters may be attended by a municipal office,
how to approach an officer, how elections are run, how a citizen may take an
active part in decision-making regarding issues relevant for their municipality,
etc.).
